10 J.Crew Coats For Women -- Tried & Reviewed

Mar 22, 2025

It’s that time of year again! Every fall, I order all the coats from J.Crew, try them on, and give you guys a full review. This whole coat-try-on tradition started back in 2020 (not sure what happened in 2021), and I’ve kept it up ever since with 2022, 2023… and now here we are in 2024!

My love for J.Crew coats goes way back—high school, actually. My mom, my sister, and I all had the exact same J.Crew peacoat (and they’ve actually updated one for this year!). They just get it right with warm fabrics, classic cuts, and colors that pop without being overly trendy. These are the coats I reach for year after year, not just season after season. J.Crew just nails it when it comes to winter outerwear.

This year, I went BIG and ordered 16 coats. Yep, sixteen. It was a full-on coat takeover at my house for a few days—boxes everywhere, jackets draped over every surface. 😂 Some were total misses (those didn’t make the cut below, but I included them in the video—coming soon—for a laugh). But after trying them all, I narrowed it down to my top 10 favorites. No particular order, just the absolute best of the bunch!

coat (size 2, 6 colors available)

SIZE RANGE: 00-24, regular & petite sizesFIT: Slightly BigWARMTH LEVEL: warm (forecast: breezy)FABRIC: 100% woolPRICE: $298 ($174 on sale)

This coat is a consistent favorite year after year, and it’s easy to see why—reviewers rave about it year after year! What makes it stand out is its unlined design, giving it the feel of a thick cozy cardigan or sweater rather than a heavy coat. The tightly woven fabric adds warmth without bulk, making it perfect for those tricky in-between temps (like right now!).

It’s also a travel MVP—I always bring it on flights for ultimate comfort and style. The green shade is absolutely stunning (trust me, the photos don’t do it justice!), and it’s also available in gray, camel, black, navy, and a playful raspberry sorbet.

coat (size 2)

SIZE RANGE: 00-24FIT: TTSFABRIC: 35% polyamide/29% wool/15% polyester/14% cotton/5% acrylic/2% other fibersPRICE: $498 ($399 on sale)

I’m completely obsessed with this one—the brushed wool is so soft and luxurious, it’s next-level cozy! It has a hint of a faux-fur vibe but without the bulk or anything over-the-top. The fit is perfection: effortlessly oversized without feeling too slouchy. And those hidden buttons paired with the stand-up collar? Such clean, modern lines—I’m in love!

coat (size 2, 4 colors total)

SIZE RANGE: 00-24, regular & petite sizesFIT: TTSWARMTH LEVEL: very warm (forecast: blustery)FABRIC: 97% wool/3% polyamidePRICE: $398 ($319 on sale)

Here’s the same coat, now in melton wool—a soft yet substantial fabric blend known for its durability and top-notch weather resistance. I’m loving the nipped-in waist and flap-free pockets; they keep the silhouette smooth and streamlined without any extra bulk. Honestly, I prefer this fit over the Lady Day Coat, which can feel a little too snug around my hips despite the tailored waist.

I’m wearing the Wilted Lavender here, but I’m seriously tempted by the Berry Sangria—it’s stunning! It also comes in classic black, soft brown, and petite sizes for a perfect fit.

coat (size 2, 4 colors total)

SIZE RANGE: 00-24, regular & petite sizesFIT: BigWARMTH LEVEL: very warm (forecast: blustery)FABRIC: 97% wool/3% polyamidePRICE: $450 ($359 on sale)

This coat is also crafted from melton wool—that soft, substantial, and weather-resistant fabric—but features a more relaxed, straight fit compared to the Savoy Coat and is far less tailored than the Lady Day Coat. If you’re after a topcoat with a clean, easy silhouette instead of one that cinches at the waist, this one is a fantastic option!

coat (size 2, 5 colors total)

SIZE RANGE: 00-24, regular & petite sizesFIT: Slightly BigWARMTH LEVEL: very warm (forecast: blustery)FABRIC: 80% wool/20% polyamidePRICE: $348 ($239 on sale)

This coat is almost identical to the beloved “cocoon coat” from past seasons—a longtime favorite of mine! It features gold button details on the sleeves and pockets that are a touch straighter than before but keeps the signature stand-up collar and classic fit. This year’s version has a slightly more oversized silhouette and is available in petite sizes, along with timeless colors like camel, gray, black, and cream.

coat (size 0, 5 colors total)

SIZE RANGE: 00-24, regular & petite sizesFIT: Runs BigWARMTH LEVEL: very warm (forecast: blustery)FABRIC: 80% wool/20% polyamidePRICE: $398 ($279 on sale)

This is the longer version of the Toscana coat (or the “cocoon fit” from previous seasons), and I sized down based on reviews. It’s 9.5 inches longer than the shorter style, which felt a bit overwhelming on my 5’4″ frame—petite sizing might have been a better option for me. The longer length looks so chic with dresses and skirts (just check out the model photos!). This gorgeous blue is almost sold out (though some petite sizes are still available!), but it’s still in stock in classic shades like black, navy, gray, and camel.

coat (size 2, 2 colors total)

SIZE RANGE: 00-24, regular & petite sizesFIT: Runs BigWARMTH LEVEL: very warm (forecast: blustery)FABRIC: 80% wool/20% polyamidePRICE: $450 ($224 on sale)

This coat has been a go-to favorite of mine for years, but I’m not loving the updated corduroy collar—I much preferred the faux fur trim on the hood from earlier versions. That said, the removable hood is a nice touch, and I do appreciate the updated, sleeker pocket design. Just a heads-up: this year’s style runs a bit larger than before, so you may want to size down!

coat (size xs, 4 colors total)

SIZE RANGE: XXXS-3X FIT: Slightly BigWARMTH LEVEL: warm (forecast: breezy)FABRIC: 100% recycled polyesterPRICE: $348 ($174 on sale)

This is the same coat as above, but it’s quilted and filled with PrimaLoft—a down alternative made from recycled materials. While it’s not as warm as the wool version, it’s definitely lighter in weight. I still wish they’d opted for a different collar instead of the corduroy, but I do love the sleeker pocket design and the gold accents.

coat (size 2, 3 colors)

SIZE RANGE: 00-24FIT: TTSWARMTH LEVEL: warm (forecast: breezy)FABRIC: 97% wool/3% polyamidePRICE: $398 ($199 on sale)

I was pleasantly surprised by how great this pea coat fits! The faux fur version wasn’t quite right for me (the understatement of the year), but this wool-blend one is perfect. It fits beautifully across both the shoulders and hips—often, if a peacoat fits on top, it’s too snug on the bottom, but not this one. Plus, the underside of the collar has a contrasting color, which adds a fun touch when you pop it up.

coat (size 0, 3 colors total)

SIZE RANGE: 00-24FIT: Runs BigWARMTH LEVEL: very warm (forecast: blustery)FABRIC: 80% wool/20% polyamidePRICE: $428 ($214 on sale)

This double-breasted style falls just below the knee and features a back-waist tab, giving a subtle nod to the classic naval silhouette. I couldn’t quite decide if it looked chic or a bit out of place on me. The gold buttons are gorgeous, and the collar stays up when popped, which I love. However, it felt a bit too oversized for my frame. I think this would look amazing on someone taller—maybe Amy??

So do you have a favorite this year?? Let me know in the comments!
